Looking to replace my stock mids that on occasion cause hip cramps. Looking at Kuryakn 9063 standard length. Not interested in pulling the case and this system seems pretty straight forward. Any advice?
My wife also suffers like you, partly due to arthritis in her hip. We weighed up using forwards on our Sportster, but settled on adjustable highway pegs. So she now has both options and struts her stuff on the European highways - in style and with a big grin!
So that's an alternative possibility to consider. Avoids messing with the stock controls and you may have a better prospect of getting suitable pegs to fit. Go to the H-D website and their Shop tab, where you will find various options for your bike.
I have hiway pegs already. The cramps happen when going from a flat footed stop and when shifting up thru the gears.
I had the same problem with my Sportster, mids were killing me after 20 years, I was younger when I bought her new. I found a nice used set of Factory HD forward controls on the Bay, pretty cheap as well, and did the swap. Very happy. Bolted right up as they should.
Since you FX is part of the family, I would go on the Bay and look for a "stock" set of forwards from a Wide Glide. They will bolt right up. And the quality will be several 100 times better then anything from Kuryakin. My 2 cents. Good luck.
