The Kuryakyn kit spaces the board out 3/4", so that's probably what you should be shooting for. Although, you can probably get by easily with 1/2".

Oh, yeah... I forgot to mention what a PITA removing the floorboard brackets was.... Anti-seize when re-assembling.

Thanks and yeah, a liberal amount of anti-seize will be used. The front bracket was easy, the rear, not so much.

I had problems with a set of true dual pipes on my 1990 bike, the left one would 'relax' over time and rest on the primary chaincase. I can't see why it should affect older bikes like ours, but it does seem to be a problem with using modern stuff. I solved my exhaust by going to a SuperTrapp, but even that was a challenge to get 'just so'. From those photos I can't see why you need much in the way of spacers on your footrest mounts, certainly 3/4" seems excessive. I'd be inclined to have a rummage around in my old stuff for some thick washers/spacers, for a trial fit first.

hardware stores have spacers in various lengths. go to the nut and bolt section of your local "ace" or "true value" and look in the little plastic drawers. it shouldn't cost any more than a couple of bucks.
