Surprised no in this thread mentioned only 6-8 oz of tranny fluid is all that's needed when converting an older shovel primary... That's how I ran my 77 without issue...

With the aluminum primary there is no way to adjust the tension on the belt. Is that correct? On my Pan I can move the tranny to adjust the tension on the belt if needed. On the sealed aluminum primary it is what it is. Is that right? Or. Is a roller adjuster used? Am I missing something?

I have the BDL belt drive system on my 66 FL.
I had to think , a minute & look up the instructions, but the idler & plate bolt up to existing hardware & idler is adjustable.

( For 11mm drives with idler, install plate and idler on existing serrated plate with idler under belt, proper tension of belt is 1/2" total up and down on top of belt and 1/4" on each side of idler)
(Copied from BDL's website.)
But the 55-64 kit does NOT have the Idler., so looks like no adjustment on those year models.

Ride Safe,
Harold

Not true. That is the point I was trying to make. On those years you can move the transmission forward or back to adjust the tension on the primary belt. Which is far better than having a belt tensioner. Which does nothing but build heat and wear on the belt. That is the reason why HD tried a primary belt for a year or two. Then **** canned that idea. On 1964 and earlier year models the belt drive is very advantageous. 1965 to 1984. Modify the primary to seal it off. Run a closed primary with chain. Nothing is more bullet proof than a chain in a enclosed primary.

Default My bad

But the 55-64 kit does NOT have the Idler., so looks like adjustment is done with moving transmission on those year models is what I should have said.
You are right about adjusting the tension with the transmission.
I had a 51 FL for a while, but not long enough to adjust the primary chain.
My loss.

Ride Safe,
Harold
