Thanks Bump... I believe what you're saying about the pressures. I've never had a solid feel to my front or rear brakes.. It's like you can press and compress and compress and it never gets firm.. Feel like a heavy duty spring that wants to keep going. Maybe this winter I'll switch it all around. I was thinking of getting a new two piston or four piston caliper for the front and rear anyways.. Maybe it's time to flush rebuild and go with that 4...
Thats the time to do it. Now dot 5 go ahead and buy quarts containers.
but dot 3or 4 you only buy a small amount than toss container out.. after its unsealed it goes down hill as boiling point and how much moisture it absorbs. If it been in your cabinet for 2 months even with cap in it? Toss it out......
another little tip for guys with old bikes or customs that u dont whats in it.... put a bit in a painted surface of something u dont care about....wait till next day.... paint bubbled up? Go ahead use dot 4 or 3 if all u have. Not fool proof but the crap the moco used was crappy yellowish color likw crappy dot 3

I just went thru this last week. I am switching out some hardware and could not find it at Autozone, Napa was closed, O'Reillys had it although expensive.
I just bought a six pack of that, I have no idea if there is a difference in fluid brands, but that is the cheapest I could find. I try to keep all fluids on hand.
Tempted to convert over to DOT 5.1 on my RK but at this point I'm not feeling up to swapping out my rubbers.

NO. RUBBER CHANGES NEEDED.....but it has to be completely flushed. Dot 5.1 probably not a good idea. Only 10 more degrees boiling point in theroy. But dot 5.1 has had some real crap manufactures.....it also doesnt get used enough ....so some dot 4 good name brand fluid surpasses the cheap dot 5.1 on the market. We went thru this in racing. Good dot 4 name brand...Wearever gold bottle. EBC if you can get it and castrol have passed the best real life tests out there for boiling point. We had to bleed brakes ever 2 weeks looking at test strips...Amsoil failed miserably......we were sponcered at one time by them. Gear oil was great..oil and brake fluid was garbage....

You will never use a 6 pack of that in your life. Lol......but somebody will need it
Man this has me scratching my ***** here. I've got the pieces together now with rebuild kits for the three Brembo calipers I'm going to use on the '96 to '08 suspension upgrade. What's all this about Dot 5? I'm replacing the seals in these calipers so I'll have fresh calipers for the Dot 5, that's what the RK is using now. Didn't know I'd be searching high and low for a quart or 2.
