Any one have any suggestions on ways to make my 97 ultra classic efi run cooler? My first touring bike and it runs way hotter than my 98 sportster 1200s. Thanks in advance for any help.

With my limited knowledge on Harleys, running hot means it is running lean.....
Put a engine temperature sensor in it, located in the center of the front head, need to lift the front of the fuel tank to gain access. The ETS is the heart of the fuel control and known to fail, can lean a engine or make it rich when it fails. Doesn't always throw a check engine light when it fails but a go to sensor to replace before driving your self nuts.
The heat that comes off the stock exhaust system, even on a well tuned bike, can take some getting used to IMHO! By all means follow the advice above to make sure all is well.
You could possibly have the wrong tune flashed in the ECU.
The original factory tune with any performance modification is going to make the bike even more lean than it is already. If youve done performance mods....the bike will really appreciate the right tune.
IF you bike is pretty much stock and IF you're plugs look pretty gray (as opposed to tan or brown) then you are running lean (and hot). I'm assuming that it runs fairly well otherwise. Mine used to do the same thing. I fixed it by adjusting the throttle position sensor. There are two screws that hold it in place. You must loosen them to adjust it. Chances are the screw heads have been epoxied over because HD doesn't want them adjusted. Dig out the epoxy and loosen ONE of them. Now tighten it back and loosen the other one. You don't want to move the dial at all until you are ready to adjust it. There is a video out on the internet for adjusting the TPS. Find it. After you've found it and you're ready to make the adjustment, loosen each screw by itself and snug it back somewhat. When you hook up the wire to check the voltage, you will tap on the dial a little bit at a time with a small hammer while watching the volt meter change voltage. Keep tapping a little at a time until you hit the number, then tighten the screws. You will understand this better after you watch the video. The TPS can be a bear to adjust if you try to loosen the screws and move it by hand.
After I adjusted mine, my bike ran much better and had a little more power. The plugs looked better too.
