1985 FLHTC 64k for 2950 probably can be had at 2500.
I've owned several Evos a 97 and currently a 98. Anybody own or owned an 85 in the past?
Any issues w the 1st yr Evos that would steer me away from this bike? I've been lookin for a bagger project n this seems legit,I haven't spoke w the owner yet just researchin the 85. Thnx in advance
They have their quirks, but nothing major. Lifters at 50K, old style clutch, old style clutch lever, lower powered electrical system, etc. If the bike is clean, go for it. And I think 85 was the 2nd year.
I spoke w the guy that owns this bike via text n says it just needs a rear caliper he dropped to 2500 w/o me even asking.
I may not be able to pass this one up.
you can get rebuild kits for the rear caliper. dual pistons in the caliper and they tend to corrode on the hard chrome which makes them not want to retract. I had to rebuild the whole rear system, master cylinder and caliper last summer.
I love my 86.Another thing to look out for is the front pulley coming loose.I did mine twice before replacing the main drive gear, no issues since.I also rebuilt the calipers all around, updated the clutch hub to steel and new lifters.Bagga's bike looks like my 86's big sister. Good luck w/the purchase.
I have an 85 with well over 100k miles. Top end and cam has been done but bottom end is original. I be rebuilt the swingarm with new bushings when I changed the belt. Rebuilt front forks. All in all it's a strong running bike.
Rode my 1984 FXRS to 100,000 miles without doing anything to the motor at all, then rode it in for a fresh top end with ported heads and a new cam and lifters.
At 60K I did a new alt. stator/reg. and rebuilt the clutch (Old still dry clutch).
Replaced the drive chain and sprockets a couple times, other than that just brakes and tires maybe a few other minor things.
I've had my 85 FXWG since new. Probably about 55k miles on it. Never had any major problems.
In 2011, although it was running perfectly fine, I decided to do a top end refresh, mostly because I wanted to bump the power up a little.
I did 9.6 pistons, EV27 cam, and S&S E carb. It had been running fine on the original Kehin butterfly carb. Of course I did the usual lifters, and other various items.
Had the heads redone, but nothing special done.
Recently had it dynode and made 70hp, 80ftlbs tq.
It's a great running bike.
Just this year, after decades of customizing, I started putting it back to all stock.
