Default Gauge Nacelle Question

So I was board today and was playin around with the buffer and I think I like the result, although the nacelle I played with is garbage. Question is are the old train nacelles powder coated or painted?

Good question! Powder coating is something I only came across long after buying my FLHS back in 1990, so I'm not sure if it was around when our bikes were made. The stock finish is a crinkle-black 'stuff' of some sort, but what it actually is I'm not sure! I have painted the g/f part that carries the headlight the same colour as the rest of my bike, light blue, but left that metal part black, as it still looks fine, if not exactly concours.

Thanks Graham, I have no idea either.....lol. I have 3 of them so I can experiment, I think I'll try aircraft stripper to get it off.

Red face

We used to have an HDF sponsor who powder coated as a speciality (around Chicago?), so we had a ready supply of advice and he was quick turning around jobs for members - did some remarkable stuff. Might be worth checking if we have another one, as that one seems to have disappeared - Powder Joe? Rings a bell. When I had all my body parts repainted blue I found a local chap to me who was a star to work with, but he also seems to have disappeared now. Something to do with painters?!
