Default FXR Forks

Hello Everyone,
Will 39mm front forks and trees from a Dyna fit my 1984 FXR? Can I even go 41mm?
Let me know.
Thanks.

The nice thing about the Evo chassis are the FXR, Wide Glide and Softail is that you can go with any front end you want because the necks are all the same.. The rake might be different but they're all the same.. Currently doing a wide guide front end on my 98 Softail right now.. Just so you know the FXRs were made with the narrow glide 39 mm front ends to make them nimble quick, It does make a difference... Nice bike by the way why would you want to go to 41 on that FXR little heavy for that chassis...

39mm fork seals seem to last longer.

I put a 39MM narrow glide from a 96 Dyna on my 86 FXR. Only issue was the fork stop. They make cups that you can use. I was powder coating so I just welded a tab. no issues whatsoever with bolting onto the frame

You should have the 35mm on that 84 if its stock right? My 84 did. Although from your post it appears you are well aware and are looking to change. Some will say they handle even better than the 39mm?? IDK but possibly more parts options and braking options for the 39mm?? I've seen plenty of people slapping WG's on their FXR's (defeating some of the purpose of an FXR IMHO) so i assume they are readily swap-able like others have said.

My thought was, the thicker the fork tubes, the more stability on the highway. I don't ride the twisty canyons so much, as much as I ride the open highway. That's why I was considering 41mm, if they would fit. As far as stability goes, if there isn't much of a difference between 35mm and 39mm, I might just stay with the 35's, if 41mm won't work.

Racepres, If I do change the forks, I'll let you know.

Cool... I find the 35mm to be thicker walled, but being that bit smaller diameter... stiffness may just be a wash..
I cannot distinguish between the two ...and i have both... especially with the S.E. Fork Brace... I much prefer the "Look" of the 35's... especially my Dual Disk ones!!!!

If you have the trees you can use what you like. My friend uses the front ends from a VRod on both his FXR's. Another had custom trees made that allow forks & brakes from a GSXR on his FXR. He surprises a lot of sport bike riders in the twisties. I think the a 39mm Harley dual disc front end is hard to beat for the average rider. Get one from a 2000+ Dyna that has the good brake calipers and your golden.
