with that big of a leak I would be looking at front pulley splines and 5th gear splines. if the 5th gear as a step in the splines you can feel with your finger nail, it needs to be replaced.

Yeah, tonight I'm going to start to methodically tear it down.. Hopefully I won't have to remove it from the frame..
I run a belt primary and can see in there behind the drive and didn't see any leakage... We'll see.

Okay so I started pulling it apart tonight.. I got the primary off, that didn't take too long.. It was about a half hour and i got a real good look at the face of the transmission and there's no leak around 5th gear.. Nothing, All that's doing real good as well as the quad seal.
So I started looking around with it up in the air and I believe I found the problem...
Who would have thought that the trans mount studs go all the way through the case.. So I'm going to have to take out the right shock and drain the case.. Clean it and loctite it up in there so it doesn't happen again..
Not too worried about the fact that I had to take the primary off cuz I do have a leak at the cases in the back so this would be a good time to take care of that too.. Hopefully it's just another lose stud/bolt...
The good thing is the trans case it's solid..
If anybody has a 5-speed case laying around with the guts out of it, I'd like to see how many of those mount studs go right up through into the case. Thanks
Here'sa pic of the case leak, it was a little worse than I thought..

My only experience is with rubber 5 speed trannies, but I can't believe the mounting bolt holes go all the way through.

?? is the fluid level high enough to submerge that area? Not saying it has to be it's only a question.

There were 2 studs on a GM 4tech (inline 4cyl) engines intake that if not sealed would leak just a little. Most of us thought it was the valve cover leaking. Drove us nuts as to were a leak was coming from.

I had a come back with a big oil leak that I had forgotten finish tightening one of those studs. Learned from that how to fix the ones that only leaked a little and were so hard to pinpoint. I'm stuck in the house while Gkid takes a nap. Shop is to close to the house lol
