carl
Need a breaker bar for a 1/4" bolt the "guy" in question probably squats to pee.

Default China bolts, what quality steel

Japanese steel has an excellent reputation, so does German and Polish (maker of Sikorsky helicopters), Austria, American, and others, not China. But you're buying from a company, not a country.
Lots of kinds and grades of steel. China makes a lot of building construction steel. That's not motorcycle grade. Lots of info online; take care to find knowledgeable sources, not smoke-blowing sites. Buy aftermarket from high reputation suppliers, ask what company made it, ask country of manufacture, read the label, pay more, get a better bolt. "Cheap work ain't good, Good work ain't cheap" : True for your job and mine, steel, plastic, baby food, medicine, rope, suppositories, everything.
btw, anything you buy from China you're taking that work away from a worker here in the US or one of our Allies. Anything. Keep your brothers employed, and your sisters. Some of you guys work in steel; weigh in.

Yea, based on current knowledge and manufacturing I agree. These bolts we're having issues with were contract purchased in the 80's and installed in our 90's vintage Harleys. Back then I'd bet nobody even fathomed China would be the origin of fasteners in their Harley.

Regardless of where they came from, somebody **** the bed on the quality of them.
