Not a new problem, but I cant find it. 94 fxr. It has about 39k miles, 1k on a bottom up rebuild of the engine.
It vibrates.
At 4k, its unbearable, but its not too bad under that, and above 4500 it smoothed out again.
it has new stabilizer links, front mount, isolators, bearing kit in the swingarm, compensator, primary chain shoe, inner primary bearing, clutch hub bearing and probably more I cant think of at the moment.
its not the transmission. I removed the stock trans and swapped it for a 92 with no change. Ive aligned the primary chain. My engine and trans appear to be aligned. I can remove my inner primary and reinstall it with no force.
when I put the engine in after the rebuild, it had a buzz in the bars at 4k. It was fine as far as Im concerned. One afternoon, I started the bike up and heard what sounded like the primary chain slapping around loose, so I adjusted the chain and clutch by the book. That was when the vibe started. I cannot seem to get rid of it. The bike tracks straight. Ive set the bike level and set the top link so the bolt just drops in, but it wont go away.
Im 99% sure its not the engine. Im sure its not the trans.
Ive read that poor drivetrain alignment can cause a vibration. How do? When i set the top link, I have bike on the lift, back wheel off the ground and a small jack under the left leg to level it. Does it need to be on the floor? Im planning on riding it cross country in a month. I need to get this thing figured out.
Be extremely careful with that inner primary. '94 is one off and very hard to find, we had a beat '94 FXR come in with the primary and trans broken from doing wheelies. The owner had to pay over $900 for a OEM inner - no one makes that one aftermarket. Good luck finding your vibration, it can be a needle in a haystack sometimes.
That reminds me, I replaced the clutch hub a week or so ago. I was going to check the bearing and went to hard with the clutch tool. I broke the hub and pressure plate, so those are new too.
Im sure its something Im doing wrong. I feel like its the alignment, but I just cant get it.

I
Not sure but I had a vib I chased for 18 months off and on.
It finally turned out to be the rivets that hold the gear and clutch basket together were loose.
The vib most annoying to me was at 2000 to 2400.
After getting the clutch basket replaced I noted the buzz I had at 3800 - 4300 rpms was gone as well.
Just curious, to all the parts you've put in it, does she vibrate at 4000 rpm in all gears? just a thought, have you looked at the tires, rims, wheel bearings, ect ?

Might be worth cking Good Luck WP
How loose was it? I recently replaced the hub in mine, but it wasn't obviously loose.

Yes, all gears. It does it on the stand. It does it in neutral, in gear with the clutch pulled in.

No, It's the same. Well, if anything, it's more intense. If I rev it to 4k with the clutch pulled in or in neutral, it buzzes so much my mirror falls down.
What I'd check, the hub or chain itself, when they stretch & get sloppy the vibration goes way up.
What am I looking for with the chain? I've had it on and off, and it seems ok. Most of the symptoms I have point to the primary, but I haven't found a smoking gun, yet.
