Default What Tuners are Available?

What tuners are available for the Evo motor? I am having trouble finding one. I used the V & H Fuelpak on my newer model bike. I have a 98 Ultra Classic, Fuel-Injected.

I guess Evo's are more hands on seat of the pants tuning.....I don't guess the Magnetti fuel injection was amenable to tuning...and I don't know if Delphi was used before the twin cam showed up......but at this late date, if tuners were ever available...well the used market would be your only source...of course a bunch of hop up parts are available but it's not as easy as plug and play...still it's eminently more satisfying...

Check out the "Power Commander". They make a model for the old MM FI.

I have the power commander 5, with the dynojet auto tuner, and the data logger with display. I had some experience with these being used on drag bikes. If you have a dyno available to create the maps, you can get by without the auto tuner

Why do you feel that you need a tuner?
Did you add pipes and air filter just now?
Power commander is one option and another is a Cobra Fuel management system.
The power commander is adjusted with a computer while the Cobra is adjusted with 3 screws (pots)
The link below is mentioned by many in the past for a power commander

The link below is for the Cobra unit at J & P cycle

Scored a use Dobeck Gen 2 for $60 a few year back off Ebay to use a 97 RK with MM.
https://www.dobeckperformance.com/vi...?vehicleid=485

Here is a used 1040st on ebay right now, and the same unit being sold under revtech,
https://www.ebay.com/p/1976244667

Pros and cons, very easy to tune with nothing more than small screw driver on your own.
https://www.tficontrollers.com/instr.../950141040.pdf

The down side, is that tuner adjusts/ add on fuel to both the warm up and hot fuel curves as one, so you end up running on the way rich side until the motor warms up/where you set the tune to in the end. So a lot of warm up riding is really going to kill gas mileage, over just the way you may have it set for once the motor is warmed up isntead. Without tuner I get over 150 miles on 5 gallons, while with tuner as rich as I run the bike to pull like a freight train, average about 25 mpg installed.

Note, DeBeck has tuners that you can wire into the wires directly, instead of the quick connects at the injectors install isntead. With it, can be the best of both worlds, since can leave the unit off if you need the higher gas mileage with it power connected to the acc switch to turn it off, and with it on, get your power gains isntead.
On the units with the injector intercept connectors, unit has to run full time instead.

As for tuner that you can adjust both the warm up and hot tables with laptop, would just go find a S&S VFI ecm replacement.
It not only comes with it own protune II software, but allows you to use a standard laptop to monitor the motor as well.

The glitch, S&S no longer offers the VFI for the MM systems, so either have to find a Harley dealer that may still have one since it was used by them for OEM replacements, or find one used that someone does not want an arm and leg for instead (sold for $499 new).

I just bought the bike (1998 Ultra). It has V & H Slip-ons, stock intake and stock filter. At the very least I was going to change to a K & N filter, but probably change the whole intake.

Cobra and Powercommader as mentioned are basic piggyback systems, Cobra adjusts like a 3 (carb)circuit system, Powercommnader uses a downloaded map but has 3 areas of manual adjustment and more features. PC3 has several downloadable maps and cheap on Ebay, PC5 is a upgraded version but need to see how many maps are available on the Dynojet website. The PC5 can be expanded to autotune and looking at it's ability to tune Evo members posting autotune charts it is a great system but need to put O2 sensors in your exhaust. These piggyback systems for Evo's is still just like your Fuelpak, just a good guess at adding fuel, it works but who knows how close it is to proper numbers

Another option and what I prefer…..

Find the appropriate SE performance cartridges on EBay. These actually reflash the ECM and eliminates any piggy back wiring.

The cartridges are getting more rare as Harley made them obsolete in 2006. But….they do show up.

Unfortunately, then you need to find someone with a scanalyzer or an OTC4000 with the Wiring adapter.
