Hey guys I'm wondering if y'all have came across a mechanical speedometer that mounts to the risers or handlebars? My electronic one that came with the bike when I bought it took a dump. So I'm really like to put on a mechanical speedometer since the speedometer drive on front wheel is still present. Also anything I need to be aware of when looking?
There are basically 2 drive ratios - one for 21" wheels and one for others. Go to DK or JP and look at the fitment chart pick the one that best fits your bike. The speedo should not matter, the ratio is in the drive. Your rotor will need a notch and you'll probably need to check the spacer and rotor alignment on the left side. Look at someone elses bike if it's not obvious.
The thing that is throwing me off is ratios. 2/1 and 1/1 I’m not sure if that should be accounted for.
Late as yours is I believe it has that goofy 2240/60 drive unit, it'll make most aftermarket mechanical speedo's read about 10-15 mph off. That can be swapped for one that matches whatever speedo get, just have to match which drive side and the spacer length the stock one had.
The ratio will not be 1/1 as that's the old trans drive gearing for the early shovel & pan days. Front wheel units are 2/1 or 2240/60.
