98 FLSTS connector

It's the hook up for the speedometer calibrator and defogger.
If your bike is fuel injected there is also a pin for fuel gauge calibration too.

That is not a cover, it is the other half of the connector that plugs into it.

A cover would not have the open holes for the wires...

FYI, no fuel injected Softails until 2000.

It's the 8 pin deutch connector for the factory ignition module.. I'm sure some one installed an after market ignition.. Pull the cam position sensor cover and post up a pic.. How many wires on the primary side of the coil, 2 or 3?

Pretty sure the Compu-fire ignitions still used a centrifugal advance of the end of the cam.. Might want to remove the ignition and have a look to make sure the posts for the weights are not worn.. And that they move freely and the springs look ok...
