A belt drive primary was always an option, but one that I did not really like as the bike is wide enough down there now. I wasn't sure what to go with for a dry clutch with a belt drive either. Everyone I talked to steered me to a Barnett Scorpion Lockup or a Primo Rivera Pro clutch, which are both wet clutches. I went with the Barnett. My only concern with the Barnett is the friction zone (and perhaps lack thereof) for low speed maneuvering. I will be hanging on to the compensating sprocket just in case I want to put it back in but I'm doubting I'll need it. I should be finding out fairly soon and it's not that big of a deal to put it back in.

I stuck with a belt instead of going to a chain but I may change that out later as well. Time will tell. Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking forward to what I can pick up off the line without the comp. in there. Most guys say it makes a significance difference...while eliminating the potential for failure. I reckon I'll find out.
I went rear chain drive after breaking the belt out of town one time.

I vote for the bdl primary. A 124 will be able to deal with the solid sprocket well. And depending on how you drive, a chain upgrade in the rear could be a good thing as well.

I will speak from my knowledge: I am running a 3 inch complete open bdl primary ev-9s. I am using Alto plates and steels. If I try to make it slip, I can. But any other time it doesn't. Even under very hard acceleration at about 126 tq. I am also running a chain final drive. But I also would consider my bike geared for the highway even though it's a softail. Florida is very flat and we have high speed limits. 80-90 is my cruising speed

Hey misfitJason
I'm considering a 3" open bdl primary on a softtail.
Are you using stock floor boards?
What sprockets & chain are you running? (brand & size)
Any other issues? E.g I ran a bdl rear sprocket that was noisy from new (with new belt)
Thanks in advance if you reply.

Yes to stock floorboards. I have also used forward controls.

Bdl sprockets on the belt drive. PBI 23 tooth trans sprocket. 51 tooth rear sprocket. All of them are steel. I don't remember the brand of the chain. I have run just about every brand over the years. O-ring is where it's at. But they all last me about two years. Florida kills everything.

It is noisy. But I don't mind.
