You've got 2 problems. One the clutch pack is probably junking itself and 2nd is whatever is eating your belt. Only relation is the neglect getting both into their present condition.
Belt I'm guessing one or both pulleys are shot.
Clutch at a guess most likely started with a bad cable adjustment.

Whats strange is it seems like the clutch is still working. Since I've had it there's beem an issue with 4th gear not engaging in shift once in a while. Today I kept hearing a slight knock, thinking it was the engine. Then on take off from a stop light it felt like it was slipping but no grinding. We stopped for a bite to eat right after light. Then when we left the grinding started. Like its not getting into any gears. When clutch is pulled its fine.
Oh and fluids get changed regularly all 3 holes. Only dif this last time was not using harley brand oils. Clutch cable has been replaced lubed and adjusted. Just turned 54k miles. Found belt teeth in driveway when I stopped before pulling in and again when chocking and lifting it. Belt is original I'm sure.
All the time when clutch is released. It is changing gears. Can even find neutral. But when clutch is released it starts grinding and lurching fwd loudly. Its obviously toast. Just wondering how I will approach either repairing or replacing it.
I'll bet the belt is so far gone that there's not enough teeth left and the grinding your hearing is your drive pulley slipping all over the toothless belt...

^^^ +1 on this. You have to replace the belt and you have to pull the primary and clutch to do that so you can inspect all that along the way.
