Default 98 FLSTS Springer needs a new seat

I've got a 98 Heritage Springer and she's got an ugly seat! I don't know where this seat came from, but it really doesn't do a lot for the bike and I think I need a new one.

Any thoughts on options to replace this? I'd like a solo seat, and I've been told the Saddlemen Renegade will fit. Looks like the Mustang Standard Touring would be another option. I really like the style of the OEM seat, but they're a bit pricey for me.

Should I consider getting this one recovered? I pulled the material back on the underside to see if there were any markings, but I didn't see anything. Looks like the grab rail was never bolted on, so I'm guessing that means the seat wasn't meant to fit this bike:

Any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks!

Yeah, that’s a butt ugly seat!
It’s also fat at the area your thighs rest, the closer they taper to the frame the better.

I just picked up a nice Mustang solo with a backrest slot for a ‘97-‘07 Roadking… $75. There are seats to be had!

Find the cl/eBay search engine “tempest”… it’s a great tool for finding parts from everywhere.

Facebook market place is another good source for stuff that people just want gone!

I'm not sure if you have had your Heritage Springer long enough to find out there are some unique things going on that set it apart from other softail springers.

One area that's unique is the seat. The rear mount, on the top center of the fender is about an inch further to the rear. That means that a two up seat from a softail will need some bracket massage to fit your FLSTS.

The good news is that this rear mount will be of no consequence on a solo seat setup.

You have the tang on the front nose and a bolt mount below the seat on each side of the frame and finally the two mounts on the fender directly behind the front seat.

I've stuck with 97 to 99 solo seats for mine with no problems. In 2000 the bike went twin cam motor but I believe the solo seat mounts through about 2016 remained the same as earlier seats....I think.

FLSTS seats and all leather for them is scarce on prices reflect it. I've never been big on all the fringe but I'm holding it for future owners

I picked up a really nice V-Twin branded seat that is actually made by Corbin for about a hundred bucks last year. It's very narrow so more like a bar hopper set up.

My favorite seat is a Corbin solo with the drop in backrest. It's an all day seat with firm support. Mustang makes a very soft and cushy seat also with a backrest available. Both of these seats use the nose tang in front and the side frame mounts. The Corbin sometimes uses the rear fender holes too.

A solo looks really sharp with a rear fender bib.

This ought to get you going.

I have a real nice LePera Basket weave seat left over from the '97 FXSTC I had, one bill + the ride, if anyone's interested.

That Corbin Classic Solo seat looks like a great option. https://corbin.com/harley/softail/hdst18hcse.shtml. Is that the one you've used? I've contacted their support team to see if this will fit my bike. Thanks for the reply!

Looking at the second pic, the seat kinda reminds me of the old Hungry Hungry Hippos game. I can't unsee it now.

I'll keep an eye out for used ones. The Heritage Springer has some unique seat mounting requirements, so I'm hoping I can find a good recommendation and avoid trial and error. Thanks!

Yes, that's it.
That is a diamond stitched cover on that one. Mine is plain leather seating surface and vinyl on the sides.
I also have a two up Corbin that has had the back bracket modified to fit the FLSTS rear fender.

LePera also makes some very reasonable seats that will work on the FLSTS.
Here's a picture of the two up seat and my Corbin two up

This one is the V-Twin solo with an aftermarket backrest and fender bib. This is my fav for around town.

Unless the rear fender is rubbed-up from the passenger seat, I prefer a solo seat sans fender bib!

I ended up going with a Mustang Standard Touring seat and Mustang fender bib. I would have preferred going without the bib, but the fender was pretty scratched up from the old seat and bags. The mounting holes for the old grab rail looked pretty rough, too. The bib cleaned it up pretty nicely and I think the seat is a much better look. Wish the old grab rail would fit with the new seat, but for now I think it looks much better.
