Now that you've had time to work all the bugs out how's it running?
It's running pretty strong. Last ride was only a short one, about 20 miles a week ago.. Mileage was poor at first, about 35 MPG, but it's up to 40. We've had some pretty gray May and June gloom. Enough that streets have been wet so riding has been limited. It finally cleared out yesterday. Still been riding but other bikes.
Motor runs strong, pulls everywhere, so much that the throttle is like a light switch at slow speeds. Bike wants to either speed up or slow down.. The BDL clutch don't help.. Ride it too much, it heats up, and starts to drag.
So I''s say it's running great. Has only about 500 miles on it.. Needs first oil change..
It could be too small.. If you went to a bigger int. Jet it might help with low speed smoothing... In my 96"I'm running an .032/.078.. I understand what S&S offers as a recommended starting point but you got to give them motor what it wants.. I have found a somewhat lean condition will cause that.. my engine is very happy at 13.2-13.6 cruise/lite tip in..

It's not bogging or missing. The problem is that the throttle is very crisp.. Open the throttle the slightest amount and the motor takes off.
I could go up on the int jet. I've tried everything from a 295 up to the 36. Going up on the main and dialing back the timing would help but mileage will go down and oil changes will need to be more frequent.. The bike's behaviour is like a race horse, it just wants to go.. You get above 30-40 mph and it's fine.. I don't ride this bike in town that much and on the open road at speed it runs very well. The bike has got character..
Sounds like my shovel, it's street manners aren't there any more, it's wants to be on it all the time. Backing off the timing helped but that frisky feeling off idle never goes away. Expect mileage to stay between 35 to 40 mpg ,even after she breaks in well, I've never got over 42 with my 93".
Just a OEM mainshaft nut and locking plate? Or is that an aftermarket? Looks a little beefier in the pick than stock? Color is darker too?
That whole tranny/pulley is actually from RevTech.. The 5 speeds were pretty good. The only problem that I've had with this tranny was that the big main drive gear seal leaked early on (within the first 5000) and got replaced. Also I did have to rebuild the throwout bearing about 2000 likes ago as it died. I wouldn't blame RT for that. The BDL clutch uses 10 springs to keep from slipping and it has to be hard on that bearing. That tranny has 51000 miles on it behind a reasonably hot 113.
