My Ironhead Sportster has a 1977 VIN number, ending in H7, and was sold to me new in 1977. But it was built in October 1976 according to the factory data plate.

Come to think of it, I also have a 45 that is stamped 42WLA as in 1942 model, but was built in 1944.

One can always call the Harley Davidson Historian @ 414-343-4056. They will send you the build sheet and were it was sold from (original Dealer). This will confirm everything in this topic...

I picked up my ‘97 RK in November of ‘96, It’s still a ‘97 (they changed the frame in ‘97 and I have the ‘97 & up frame)

In Virginia you can put antique tags on a vehicle after 25 years. They go by the vin to determine age, not when it was originally registered.

Well ****,
I was talking to wife and she informed me it is licensed as and 84. What a dumbass i am, she said the guy i bought it from said it was an 83 licensed as an 84 . good thing she has a memory for me.......
