Default Evo original vs Crate

I may have posted this earlier in wrong forum section.

I'm looking at a custom softail that has an evo 80" harley crate motor. Since Harley moved away from Timken tapered bearings would anyone consider current crate motors inferior to the original evos? the engine number is AA12X7855.

I would not consider it inferior. I have both. And after 93 or so, they all didn't have Timken bearings. On an Evo, it's only one bearing anyway. So change it out when you do the lifters or the cam. Big deal.

New Old Stock. There are no "new" crate motors, as they don't make them anymore. Any new crate motor will be new old stock, sitting on the shelf somewhere. Whatever chopper you're looking at with a crate motor was either built when the crate motors were available, or built from a crate motor that was sitting around. Also no big deal.

Harley stopped offering the EVO option a long time ago. When you purchased one it came with any current update

Your number does not appear to be correct did you leave anything off? Take a picture of the number and post it.
There are ways to tell if it is an aftermarket stamp. Also any information on The frame it was put in like year.
When you say custom that covers a lot of ground. From a parts bike, basket case assembly to custom made frame ect.

thanks Dr.Hess and everyone else . Based on your replies I think it would have to be a non-harley crate motor like maybe a revtech or something else? I don't have access to the bike but I will ask the owner take a pic of the motor vin . The number I gave came off the east Sac Motorcycle Work Order snippet that the owner sent me. It also had the 2017 special build vin number next to it. The story is the current owner bought from the builder who passed away. He was told the only thing original was the frame that he started with.

So good to learn from you guys thanks. I'll try and post a pic

Just to clarify:

All Evo engines have Timken bearings on the left side of the crank.
