Default 86' fxrs upgrade

I have an 86' fxrs and was wondering what options or ideas everyone has for getting some more power out of er. currently the bike has a cam, s and s carb and high flow heads. I bought the bike a handful of years ago and have decided to finally start making it into the bike I'd like, any help would be greatly appreciated! All of the mods were already done to the bike when I purchased it.

Well before you can improve on what you have you will need to do a compression test to find out where your compression is at.. Then you're going to have to tear the motor down and see what pistons are in it what kind of valve job/head work was done and what kind of cam was put into it.. Then we'll know where you're at with your build and can tell you where to go from there.. **** who knows, it might even be stroked already.. We have no clue as to what you got..

Back it up, and make sure that the carb is correctly jetted, and the timing advance curb is set up for the cam to begin with.
If its been a few years, then start with replacing the intake seals first, to make sure they are not leaking to start with, before you start to check the carb jetting.

Simply, make sure that what you have now, is giving you its full power in the first place, then you can decide if you need more power or not in the end.

Start with some basic's first, find out what parts you have in it already, cam in particular. A lot guys slapped the latest hotdog cam in and it's completely wrong for a daily runner, you don't get power till the rpms are way up there.

Go over the machine thoroughly, seal up intakes, check the rubber and the vac hoses around the carb. Make sure the tune is right and the carbs solid. Get a baseline this way.

Figure out what you really want out the bike, a solid daily with some spunk or hotrod stop lighter, two very different builds.

Now what's the budget going to be?

Make this list and we can help you from there, several very good evo guys in here to point you right.

If you just want to hot rod around town you could change the gearing. Probably wouldn't be good for much more than stoplight fun.

Your in the right spot for modding the evo and the FXR is the bike to have

week link is the starter as it is a shovelhead starter - .4 amps they do make a 1.7 amp for that combo and a 500 or 650 amp battery will be your choice if your going 89 or 96 inch stroker engine for street use they add 30 to 50 HP TO WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE BUT ITS NOT NECESSARY

thinner head gaskets and the correct cam choice better ignition and some mods to the carb might just do the trick for you. In power < my choice what guys wanted more and its not stupid money

Lightweight Blinker Fluid and a Titanium Gremlin Bell will add 30HP....but seriously, you need to investigate what is inside it, best Evo I ever rode was stroked with a Mikuni 42 and an EV46...it was beast a total torque monster!
