Professional help needed!!
I been searching all over the Internet about my issue, but i still got some questions I couldn't find answers to .
im a experienced rider driving through all of Europe, but this is my first harley , so I thought I would try to get some professional help from you guys .
the bike is a hard tale with a evo engine from the early 90's I think , and she can kicks like a horse.
I never tried some like that 😅 she's crazy !
and after the first day working on her , i wasn't able to walk properly, for a couple of days 🤣
She's not been startet in around 4 years , so its though. And the early owner told me she's always been kicking , especially when hot . But use to start after a couple of kicks .
I been checking the ignition timing, and It seems to look right .
The spark in the spark plugs, is orange, so I think I will try to give her a new ignition coil in hope of getting a more blue and strong ignition.
could the ignition be a cause of kick back ?
Also I just bought a new battery with a high amp and high cca (im living in denmark , so the weather can be pretty cold )
Could a battery with to low amp or cca be a reason for her to kick back ?
I take a long trip every year through europe, and i would love to take her for a long trip , but I wont if she kick me all the way .
so my goal is to make her stop kicking back ,and start after a couple of kicks .
any good advise would be more then appreciated.
Thanks guys 🫡
Kick only Evo huh? Ignition could be too advanced. Whats the ignition system? Is it electronic or points?
Id start with re-timing ignition. Static first, then dynamic to dial in.
2 - has the electric starter been removed?
3 - what brand carburetor does it have.
After sitting for 4 years it's going to require a good bit of attention, regardless.

Just to be Joe Cool I guess, probably why the hardtail as well.
I can see having a kicker for a backup incase the e-start fails maybe.
I spent 10 years with a kick only Harley and can't say I miss that kicker at all.
I know having electronic ignition and a kick start things have to be set up perfect or you'll have headaches, good luck with it.
My $0.02: Find someone (a shop, a buddy, whatever) who has a paddock starter and use that to get her running. It's about a million times easier setting up the fuel and timing on a kick-only bike when you have a way of easily starting it between adjustments. Without it, you could find yourself kicking for hours on a bike that will never start.
Once you have her dialed in, and once you've learned exactly how she wants to be treated, ahe should start fairly reliably. You'll still have those times when she decides to be stubborn, in which case go have another beer and try again later. But actual kickbacks should be very rare.
