Just put in a 127 in a 95 flstn have the baker 6 speed and pro clutch. got about 500 miles on the motor now. Had to increase the stop so put on duel discs and 6 piston calipers. Ran a 110" S&S before. Push rods are bent so have some new ones coming. Oil pressure is a lot higher than the S&S up to 35 or so on the highway once it's warm. Really enjoy the motor, next step is to do the heads and RSR fuel injection.

Classic Beast,

I almost wish that I had went with the 120 in my 90 Dresser, but I don't know if I could have stood the power. I really like the 107". Oil preeure is about 35-40 will riding and around 25 at idle. You say the pushrods are bent, I hope you mean in the S&S motor. What are you plans for the heads and who are you planning on doing them ??

Randy at R&R I was in touch with him, Here is what he had to say (see below). I had to change out the front barrel as it was damaged in shipping when I had it apart I noticed the ports etc could use some clean up (free HP). I looked at fuel injectionand was thinking of the S&S VFI but it's more for upgrading a bike thatalready has injection so I think I am going to try the RB Racing unit since if you look atthe 2 of them it's about the same price but there are a few advantages with the RB system (comes with fuel pump, wiring harness etc all complete). The mikuni works fairly good but as any carb it has some short comings. I put the RB fuel ratio meter on it which really helped dial inthe carb, still some fine tuning to do. The push rods were bent in the Ultima motor right from the start, (not sure why) the lifters were noisy so I checked the adjustment and they were spot on so when I pulled off the barrel I checked them for straight the exhaust wasn't too bad but the intake has quite the bow in it. I also noticed these are a 3/8" pushrods but there is plenty of clearance to run a 7/16" so I ordered some Vthunder ones, Ultima says they will fit no problem. Hope this cures the noisy lifters. The 127 actually runs smoother and is better behaved than the 110 more like a stocker, for the size of the motor the cam is quite mild. It's easy to turn down the power on the larger motor (leave the throttle cable loose) but really hard to turn up the power on a smaller motor.

My guess would be 2- 3 hundred. Bolt the flanges on backwards and scribe a
circle on each head, then measure port to port at it's closest point. I use
a stiff piece of paper and cut it into a T shape snipping the ends to this
dimension. Then send the parts. Turn around 1- 2 weeks.

Regards

Randy

I have a 127" ultima, have you done any headwork on these? I only need port
matching and minor clean up as it's on a hertiage Classic which I don't race
I am installing a RSR fuel injection so would need to have the manifold
matched to the heads as it's a 386 S&S "D" manifold. Any idea of price and
turn around time?

P.S. I live in Canada

I just did a ground up restor on a 1987 FXR I put a flh front end on electra glide tank 200 back 18inch spoke chain dive because I went with the ultima 127 with the roadrunner billit 6 spd. and
3 inch open belt. MMMAAANNN, I had problems from the start!!!! the ignition jireh sent me was only firing every other time on the front cyclinder. then I got the wrong plug wires for the coil ,then I didnt have a large enough starter even with the comp. realeases. so all is well now I only have 200 miles on her. I havnt come up with a name but man she is pretty. Candy Tangerine and Black with silver pinstriping by hand. I will put up pics soon. oh and yeah I sure would like a mikuni and from 2000-3000 runs like junk then 3000-up rips your arms off!! I dyno tuned it 120 tq that was with the front cyl. firing every other time. I will post hp ## after proper break in.

My 127 is smooth as glass from idle on up. Have about 1500 miles on it now and when I get home in a week from overseas I will be able to put a few more on it. Hope the new pushrods help with the lifter noise.

brad,

The ignition that came with my 107 was a single fire. I had to buy a single fire coil for it to wrk properly. I am sure you got a single fire coil also, right? My engine came with a MIkuni 45 also....My 107 is as smooth as silk. Around 3000 + miles on the motor and about 350-400 on the trans, weather sucks right now. Anyway, "beast" let me know how the pushrods do, my engine is a little noisey, but I haven't looked into it yet. However, my HD 80" was noisey in the valve train dept. too.

Thanks bigjohn,

Did the owner say if there was any forwarning ? Was it running good and just drop the lifter or did it start tapping exceptionally bad. Just wondering, so I can be on the lookout for anything that might give me a clue. I listen very closely while i am riding since I installed the engine. A friend brought his 80" evo over and it was tapping like hell. I pulled the pushrods and the lift blocks and lifters. The front lift roller had completely came apart. Cleaned everything up, checked the cam, put in another lifter and he's been riding it since last spring. Anything or any info will be appreciated.

said it was a little noisy, like it may have needed to be adjusted, but he wasnt riding it when it come apart, the kid riding it said it was sounding like his panhead, then just went to hell fast,, he shut it down quickly, but it was too late, after looking at the lifters, i would throw them away ASAP, look like cheap and noot good enough forthe cam in the motor, look into a set of jims big axleor similar quality to replace them.........

Had a similar oil breathing problem on my S&S 110"it would use 1 qt in about 1000 miles and always had a fine mist from the crankcase breather, I finally rebuilt the complete engine, new pistons, crank pin bushings bearings etc. It ran good but still had the mist and used oil about the same. I did several things and each one helped till finally no mist and 0 oil consumption. First was on the head breather fittingsI pointed them straight up and ran a hose from each with the small plastic baffles inside to a T up under the tank. Next I replaced the timed breather withthe S&S reed valve. finally plugged the crankcase breather as with the head breather the crankcase is not needed. Finally routed the breather hose from the heads inside the air cleaner, not a dribble or drop of oil from it, put on about 20,000 with it this way and still works good.
