I’m looking to do some engine upgrades and have decided to throw on some S&S heads and a slightly more aggressive cam. I currently have an Andrews EV27 and like it. However, I’d just like some extra power.
Other than that I’ve got an aftermarket air cleaner, Thunderheader, Daytona Twin Tec, Wiseco pistons, and otherwise pretty much stock 80”.
It is for my daily so I’m looking for a cam that can deliver power in the range for “spirited” street use. I’m looking at the Fueling 543 but would appreciate input on what has worked well for others.
Which S&S heads did you put on? I went for the 76cc high comp heads that you run with stock flat top pistons. The lower volume in the chamber gives a nice comp bump without having to spend on domed pistons.
I did run the EV27 but for my riding which comprises of local village stop and start, stretches of highway and country hills / twisties, the powerband wasnt as useable for me due to it coming on around 2.5-3krpm. I swapped in the EV13 along with some 0.30 head gaskets and much prefer the power delivery now. Bags of torque low down where I need it.
If you are looking for a more 'peaky' cam and dont mind revving the motor high, the EV46 gets good reviews. You look like you have most of the bolt ons covered with ignition, exhaust, cam, pistons and top end. Id say look at the carb but assume you have already got that rejetted and upgraded.

Thanks for the info. I haven’t decided on which exact S&S head yet. I was going to try a brand other than Andrews since I already have two of their cams but they do indeed get good reviews. I also forgot to mention that the bike is an FXR.
You said you have Wiseco pistons. Do you know what you're compression is? Then maybe we can give you better options..
Fair question. I had this bike in the shop and was gifted the pistons that another customer changed their mind on and didn’t return. I’m pretty sure I’m running 10:1 or 10.5:1. I asked the shop if they could check which set they put in to clarify. It looks like S&S says the heads won’t work with stock pistons but I think they’ll be fine with the Wisecos?
The thing is you'll never know unless they do a compression test.. You have no idea what the combustion chamber size is or piston dome volume is.
All I'm saying is without the actual numbers it's hard to really recommend a good cam..
