Default EVO Bagger Performance

Looking for suggestions for my 98 Road King. I never paid any attention to geezerglide bikes or their performance. Now, I’m a geezer.

I know nobody makes jack for EVO’s and performance when we talk Bagger and exhaust. But they probably did at some point. That means I may need to look for a used performance exhaust.

What used exhaust should I look for? What brand?
I thought long and hard about what I wanted from my Road King. The truth is this bike is going to see coast to coast trips. My initial plan was to build a 131 for the softail and take the softails 127 and put it in the King. But that won’t make my design goal. Too much Hot Rod, too much heat, too much maintenance. The 127 could do it… but how many times? The heat? Longevity…

I decided against it. The cases and crank for a 131 will sit until I decide to build a spare motor for the softail… or add a FXR to the stable. But back to the Road King. I decided to gamble and bought a Used Ultima 113 to go through. $1,000 running. But I had to pull it out for the owner. It actually is showing 190 a side and he says it has less than 15k on it.

So the King will be a carbureted 113. If I can find pistons, I’ll shoot for 10:1 compression. Looks like 10 over is all I need. Actually if they make them 5 over would be good. There’s still cross hatch and the walls look pretty good. I coulda probably just ran this motor as is, but my trust factor is too low. Cam I’m not sure, yet the S&S 640 looks promising.

Anyway… Exhaust. What should I look for? I really like my long offensive shin splitting fish tales. They are anti performance lol. I “may” run them anyway. But I wouldn’t mind looking for something really good. Now, not to offend anyone, but 2into1 is out. I don’t like anything about 2into1 pipes. I don’t like their sound or look. I had very conclusive negative experiances with the two top brands at the drag strip killing my mph. The King isn’t about drag racing… so that reasoning shouldn’t be part of it, however… I still hate the way they look and sound.

Did anyone ever make true step tuned dual cross over exhaust for baggers in the evo erra?

Clutch. I love the Primo Rivera pro clutch with variable pressure plate, but it’s $800. I’ve seen on Ebay these bolt on variable pressure plates that fit on stock clutch parts. Anyone ever tried them?

I have good condition Barnett clutches for the 98 hub I could use. I’m just not confident it will hold the 113? My guess is this build will only be 1 po y per cube with as anemic as I’m gong with cam and compression, not to mention possibly severely crippling exhaust. But that ok. This one’s for two up riding and long distances.

I ran a 113" S&S motor with a 6 speed and a Vance and Hines Propipe in my 94 ultra classic for about 10 years. Ran a G carb with T-jet in it and switched to a 52 mm CV carb and a SuperTrapp 2 into 1 with a Wego A/F setup on it.
Currently running a homebuilt 96" motor with a 44mm CV and the SuperTrapp pipe on it.

Both are great for the road.

Looks like those options are all 2into1. No go.

I run Rinehart True Duals on a mild 95" build on my Road King. They have 2 types of baffles to choose from, quiet and loud, I run the quiet baffles. If I take it easy on the throttle around town, they are not what I consider loud, but they do have a nice rumble. But if I really get on the throttle they will really bark. I've had a lot of comments from people about how good my bike sounds, and I've considered the performance to be very good.

I put Paughco true duals on my 86 after the crossover pipe cracked with drag specialties slip ons.

Anything that will go on a twinkie, will go on an Evo. I have 2008 CVO pipes on my 87 with a 96" S&S stroker. It's respectable in today's world.

Best Roadking I ever built just had Screaming Eagle mufflers that had been reamed with sharpened 3/4" rebar, quiet at idle, barked like a rabid dog under load and good power delivery. My Indy says that any pipe that is not the same diameter all the way from port to tailpipe will produce good power.
