Default When did exhaust get so expensive?

I've always loved the sound of a Thunderheader on an Evo. Finally picked up an Evo and went to buy the Thunderheader, $1500 all in with heat shields! Wow! Bassani Road Rage is a little cheaper as it comes with heat shields for around $1100 but I guess if i'm gonna spend a grand I'll pop for a little more and get the Thunderheader. The bike came with V&H short shots, which look nice enough but I really don't like the sound, they are basically just drag pipes with a baffle.
Decisions decisions......

I spent $1300 back in 2000 for a blunderheader and a little more for that LSA whatever stupid 2 into 1.. waited a long time for both to be shipped and was completely disappointed with the performance loss of both. Not to mention they made my shovel sound like a metric rototiller. That was 25 years ago… ruined my 2003 season trying both. It was a daily ridden street bike and performed a lot better with tuned drag pipes.

Is your Softy stock? If so the 2 into 1 will probably run very well. Even stage 3 will be great. Go 98” up and serious compression they will start to hold you back. Highly noticeable in mph. ET will suffer.. but the dyno will sing their praise.

I just installed an EV27 and I think I was the first one ever in the cam chest. I bought it from the original owner and he said he's never had any motor work done to it. I'm waiting on lifters from WFO Larry, then I'll be ready to close it up and fire it up, I guess I'll hang on to the VH shorties for now.

Sounds like a great bike. The Thunderheader would work well for you. I’d run what you have and leave the baffles in.. if you want louder, remove them if they are removable, and remove the insulated packing if there is any and put the baffles back in.

if that still isn’t your cup of tea, remove the baffles and install TTI’s. It will be louder than baffles, deeper than baffles and be decently tunable removing most of the mid range torque dip.

Oh I hadn't seen the TTI till now, basically a next level washer lolipop. I might just throw $30 Duane and Kevins way. Thanks

I never liked the Thunder looks wise, I went with the D&D fat cat. All pipes are way overpriced but that’s the cost of changing them

Everything got expensive. Exhaust started going nuts when availability became an issue (the Covid BS) and prices never came back down, they got even higher.

The Rinehart complete system for my bike was $1100 in 2019, from an HD dealer. I remember then looking online and Rev Z had it for $999...go look at it today

I just ordered these from Paughco. I know, they aren't not everyone's cup of tea, but I dig them and yeah they were way too expensive.

@Tailbreaker
would've been nice if you posted a disclaimer that those were not your bikes in the pic.. But a file from Paughco...
