Looking at a set of Hylift Johnson B2303 lifters for my 96 EVO 1340. I have been reading and learning about preload with adjustable rods, and what I thought was that approx .100" is typical preload adjustment, or 15 or 16 flats on my unlabled 25 TPI adjustable push rods. However, their site has this to say about preload:
How much preload is right? The Hydraulic lifter only needs a small amount of preload. This
preload is just to take up any lash in the system and then to remove any contact between the
internal components of the lifter and the retaining ring. We only recommend .020 to .040 of
preload on any of our lifters.
Preload needs to be more than the gap caused by expansion.
At Least...and we measure this????? Nah Not me just Know it happens!
Not unusual on lifters that bleed down, relatively quickly, (sometimes showing wear), for me to compress up to 40% even 50% plus!!
This ain't rocket science after all.. Whatever actually Works!!!

Oh...When starting out, with New ****....Yup...but, trying to keep old, not junk, but not Perfect, **** working???
I run solids and when I have Evo or TC bikes, I just do the required turns and leave it at that, if that doesn't work, then there is something that needs fixing.
