Default CV 40 float bowl drain screw

I was going to drain some small amount of gas in the tanks thru the float-bowl drain.
Screwdriver not quite long enough to reach drain screw from r/s to get a substantial grip.
Grip was good enough to realize the screw was very tight, probably not opened in many years.
Tried turning counterclockwise, figured this direction would allow drain.
Wondering what the screw is threaded into brass, zinc?
Should I get a longer screwdriver and bear-down on it, counterclockwise?
Or, leave it alone and not fix something that isn’t broken.
I have found any water in fuel to go to the bottom of the float-bowl.

If it is running good, leave it alone.

If you need to drain gas out of the tank and do not want to mess with the petcock fittings, get you one of these at Harbor Freight for less than $10:

That screw has an o-ring between the head and threads. If the screw is that hard, that o-ring will most likely foul when you turn it enough to get gas out.

You can buy a $22.00 kit that will have that o-ring plus anything else you'd ever need. Or check by the shop that worked on the bike last time. Chances are they have some leftover laying around.

The brass drain screw threads into the zinc float bowl, it's not brass on brass. A little muscle should break it free, then replace the O ring maybe a tiny dab of grease on the threads when you reinstall it.

A little tough pulling the siphon hose out of the tank, but I’ve done it a few times.

Counterclockwise to drain, and remove screw?

O-ring could probably be found in an assortment.

Yes CCW to open and remove.
You might want to remove the entire float bowl.
Soft screws there - use a fairly new screwdriver for those.

Actualyl a JIS screwdriver for the float bowl screws. They're not quite philips as we know them.

Counter clockwise to remove/loosen. Find a long screwdriver and giver a twist lefty loosey. I get to mine from the primary side of the bike. Have a long regular head "custom ground" to fit the drain screw perfectly.

You may have to find a JIS screwdriver or the bits on Amazon. You won't be finding them at Home Depot or Harbor Freight.

JIS for the bowl screws and hollow ground screwdriver for the drain screw.
