Default Fork slider/lowe question

Hey guys, I found a set of chrome Harley lowers for my '94 WG at a pretty good price and decided to go that route.. My question is regarding disassembly and installation.

Looking at the manual, it appears that I should be able to do this with the forks still mounted in the tree's. (right??).. From there it looks like I raise the dust boot, remove the C-clip, remove the bolt in the axle bore(front wheel removed of course) and the slider will just slide off.. That simple??? Does the spring remain retained in the tube?? I had a vision of removing th c-clip and shooting the lower across the shop, but it doesnt look that way. Just wanted the advise of someone who has seen the inside of these things in real life before I get into it.

I appreciate the help as always..

HGM,

with the bike raised to take the wheel off you relieve the pressure on the spring. Just drain the shockoil , take the clip off and pull on the lower leg. After removing the allen head bolt in the bottom of the leg. The spring stays in the tube. I repaced the bushings in my roadglide in this manner. Saves a lot of time and work. Mine didn't just slide off, I had to pull on it like a body hammer or a slide hammer if you know what I mean. You will need a fork seal installation tool or you can cut a piece of heavy wall plastic pipe split it as I did and put the seals in.

later..................

That allen bolt in the bottom holding the sliders on is a metric 8mm I think
