I have a 1998 Road King at 65 MPH or less I average about 43 MPG when I get on thew interstate at 80 MPH it drops to 28-30 MPG any way to help get better gas ?? Thanks Jack
What mods have you done to the engine, carb, air cleaner and exhaust? If you have SE air cleaner, some kind of semi-open exhaust (not drag pipes), and a stock carb with the '88-'89 Spory idle jet needle, you should be getting close to 50 mpg up to 75 mph or so. Maybe 44 for in town riding.
Mine is bore 3 over with all of my mods listed and my first tank refill today was a disappointing 35 mpg, but that was 100% city so I guess I shouldn't complain dynoing 84 hp. It's too cold to go highway right now, maybe in a week or two.
I have a screamin eagle stage 2 and a K&N air filter. I have a semi-open exhaust.
I was told that ifI got a bigger sprocket I would get better MPH ?I am not sure why my mileage changes so drastically from44 MPG at 60-65MPH to 30 or below at 75-80 MPHThanksI have also thought about a six speed trans??
Same year Heritage, lighter bike but same motor. I have set mine up for milage and torque. S.E. ignition, S.E. slip ons, heads done at Hot Shot motors (hotshotmotorworks.com) EV27 cam, and main jet a little lean. Dyno 75 HP, 85 TQ. get 50mpg at 80mph, over 60mpg at 65mph. The magic seems to be in the combination of head work and cam.
93 FLHS EVO; new top end, street ported heads, EV27 cam, tuned CV carb, SuperTrapp slipons with 18 discs, and SE air cleaner.
38-40 City (no 'revving', sane driving)
40-45 Highway (solo, cruise set between70-75mph, light/moderate traffic) When the trip meter rolls past 160 miles, I start looking for a gas station. At 200 miles I'm getting 'nervous'.
The Touring HD'shave all the aerodynamics of my 76 Jeep CJ5. At 70-75 mph my FLHS is a nice, smooth, and predictableride. Go to 80 and your attention needs to increase dramatically. Above that for any length of time and it gets tiring. The big windshield, all the buffetting from trucks/RVs/cars,and the stock tires...Do notmake it a 'Fun' ride, IMO.
