The man told me if I wanted a whisper quiet engine - "buy a Gold Wing."

Never had a stock cam since I boughtmy 87in 89 and the dealer said the original owner had a SE cam in it and I might notice a little valve noise. I did, but it got bad (I thought) at 14,000. miles. Now, 77,000 miles later, on my third cam, total rebuild from the flywheel up at 55,000, complete new valve train all at one time last fall - that exact rattle is still there. Some just DO IT! I dunno why.

Here's a chart: http://www.harleyhelp.com/pushrod.html

Murph,

Glad to hear that backing off on the preload helped and that you also used the original cam gear.
If the endplay on the cam was set up properly there should be very little "whine" in the drive. Without being able to listento your engine, the noise that you are hearing now could just be the nature of the ramp design on the EV-27 or the lifter itself. The fact that it quieted down substatiates that and it should be alright.

I still had a slight lifter noise after my EV-27 installation. BTW, the SE lifters weremade by Jim's. After I removed the baffles from my AR II exhausts, I couldn't hear the lifters anymore .

Buddy: Are you sure that all Revtec products not made in USA? The UPC tag on the Custom Chrome 59227 Revtec II Chromemoly pushrods state "Product of United States" not product "for" United States. It's no big deal for me but is a bit misleading if they claim it is a product of United States but mean it was made overseas and shipped to USA. It is 36 threads per inch and they do state 4 complete turns

Pajoe,
Most of Revtecs products are made overseas (Korea if I'm not mistaken),although it is possible that some are made here. Anything is possible, I just purchased a set of HD footpeg mounts in HD packaging. When Iopened the package there is a sticker on both of the mounts that says "Made in Taiwan".

Another example is Kuryakin USA. Look at the package and most of their stuff is made overseas too. I prefer to stay with American made products whenever possible. Far less hassel with warranty claims. Ask anyone with a Gen I or II Revtech engine that needed warranty work what happened and how long the repair took through Custom Chrome.

To get back to the posters problem, @ 36 TPI his pushrods may move the same distanceas another brand @ 32TPI. One would have to check to make sure. The fact that when he backed off on the preload the lifters quieted down tells me that there was too much preload. Weather or not the liftersstillhave a problem has yet to be determined.

Alot of companies now say made off-shore in an American owned company.I recently bought a vehicle lift that is manufactured overseas in an American owned company.Probably going with the cheaper labor deal.Made in USA,made in an Amer. owned plant .I don`t know if they consider this NOT an American product? And yes rev-Tech stuff is made in Korea, but it may be an American plant(owners).????Anybodies guess now where stuff is made.Anyway good luck w/your tappet problems and hopefully it will all work out.Toby
