Charging Issues?
Damn,  \\;you guys are lifesavers. I just finish my rollingthunder chopper build and had a charging issue and you saved my but. I didnt have my voltage regulatr grounded properly. I was getting only 12v at the battery and every thing was brand new. I took the dremel out and took some powder coating off and put a couple of star washers on the bolts this morning and bingo 14.5 at the battery. I took it for a sweet tride and was soo happy. thx again for the info. Especially the link to the british biker club. that boy was very informative.
My 96 Ultra did the same thing, exactly. \\; Spiked voltage, radio noise, lights flickered .  \\;We found a ground short in the headlight wiring harness.  \\;Since your trouble seems to be linked to the spots I would say that you need try to run a separate ground off the frame or battary \\;to the each of the lights themselves. \\;They should pull no more than .5-.75 or so off your available voltage with the motor pushing at 2500-3000rpm. \\;Get \\;8 or 10 feet of \\;10/12G solid core copper wire and lock one side to the neg battary terminal with a vise grip \\;and touch it to each of the lights see if the voltage fluxuation goes away. \\; Also take the \\;spotlights apart and look inside at the ground within the light itself. \\; My Heritage had a problem were the riveted connector inside the light got corroded and the ground went bad. \\; Also, just check your connection between the stator plug at the primary case and the plug going to the regulator. \\; If that is not solid your regulator will not supply the bike power, check the plug for contact, it needs to be solid and very clean. \\; Get a new battery or least pull in out and take it to a NAPA or Autozone and have it tested. I would also take note of what SuperMario1 said \\;about the ground on the regulator, make sure that it cleanly touches the frame. \\; Pull it off and grind it down to clean metal on the legs and on the frame. If you get a new one do this before you install. \\; Check your regulator feed to your main fuse, make sure that that is clean and tight, if it looks iffy, change the fuse out, they are cheap and easy to do.
 \\;
Don't spend any big money until your sure that you know.
 \\;
Beleive me I feel your pain, took almost 8 weeks and lots of cash to get mine back working.

 \\; \\; \\; Well, I think I may have solved the problem....
It seems that my problem eventually tracked back to the battery, a loose ground wire [:@]
I also had a broken ground wire on the radio.
Put it all back together ..... AGAIN.....
and rode it to work today.
Just goes to prove, it's the little gremlims that get you!
