Default 1980-2001 swing arm retrofit kit

Hello, has anyone put the Custom Cycle Engineering swing arm retrofit kit in their bike? I saw the ad in American Iron and it looks interesting. Here is the web site for it http://www.customcycleengineering.co...ndex&cPath=192

I am thinking that I may do this when I pull the motor on my 89 ultra

That looks very interesting. I have seen some adds for a stabilizer that seems to bolt between the tranny and frame, but this looks like another possible upgrade. I wonder how much difference some of this really makes - so thanks for the post. I hope someone that has it will respond.

If your bike has the three rubber mounts, and '89s do, and your stock swingarm is in good shape, this kit wouldn't be a real necessity. However, if you're going to keep your bike and put a lot of miles on it and want to really make it bullet-proof, there's no question that having bearings in there instead of the stock setup would be a much better deal.
These type of swingarm kits came about because of the change that Harley made to only 2 rubber mounts, first for the Dyna-Glides, and later (not sure what year) for the FLH (and, I think, the CVO FXR in '99 and '00). Not only do the two mounts not control vibration as well, they also don't stabilize the frame and powertrain as well, resulting in some very undesirable handling traits.
Frankly, if I had one of the bikes with only two rubber mounts, I would probably want to alter the actual engine mounting as well.

I was reading thru a lot of that thread last nite. There was the Tru track and trw or something like that. The only thing that I did not see was what year of bike they were doing this on. If it was 2002 and up, then according to this ad, it would already have the spherical bearings and they were putting that brace on a bike that is already upgraded from my 89. I would think that this would give me a little more stability over the clevebloc bushing system. But to tell the truth, I have never really had a wobble from the back. I don't race it obviously, but I do not baby it. I find this 89 FLHTCU a lot more stable than my 85 FXRS was. I don't test the newer ones though, to know if there is a difference. I won't test ride something newer, I know me, I am weak and my bank has lots of money!!!
