Upgrading the EVO
Well, this winter my 99 NT is going in for an upgrade to the EVO. I've decided on the EV27 cam, Crane Hi-4 ignition, adjustablerods, and a port and polish(thinking Branch). I already have the cam but am looking for the rest. Anyone know of a place to get some good deals? Anyone have some parts laying around that they aren't using anymore? If I can find some I might also consider adding some high compression pistons. There was a guy about a year ago that offered me a package deal, all the above for several hundred. At the time I wasn't too secure in my job so I had to turn him down. Kicking myself since. email me at eslick@email.com Subject HARLEY PARTS
http://www.jirehcycles.com is one of the least expensive. For deals I do most of my stuff on ebay but you really have to watch and know your stuff even though I have never been ripped off and have some really good deals on ebay it does take some time. got a thunderstar rear chromed mag for $106. Did have to return one item as it was the wrong part but they did eventually refund my money in full. What kind of mileage do you have on the motor now? If your going with Branch heads contact them first about cam and piston choices as they have some really great tried and true combo's that work perfect together and will work wonders on your evo heads. I did up a 1994 with just head work a cam then punched out the stock pipes it really screamed and would out do the 88" S&S strokers at the time just keeping it at 80"
That sounds like a great combination. I've also heard that Revolution Performance is also pretty good, but I have had no personnal experience with them. Have you thought about putting a differant carb on too, like a Mikuni. I have been researching the same build as you. As far as parts, if you are patient look on ebay and take your time you will be able to save. Branch looks like they put out a good product, I've thought about them myself. Please keep us posted.
Jerry Branch is legendary and his company makes excellent products. He is now retired, but his company continues on. Here is a link to their site and has information on what combination of parts work well together etc.

Have to throw my $.02 in here. Anybody thinking about the EV27 cam would do well to investigate the Wood W6. I got one on the advice of my indy mechanic (he insisted it was a better choice than the EV27, and he's installed a bunch of 'em) and it definitely really woke up my sleepy old 89 Evo. Added new lifters and adjustable pushrods with the cam. I didn't go with port and polish; just a regular valve job, but got the heads shaved .060" for a little more compression with stock pistons. I had already scrapped the old butterfly carb in favor of a CV, and updated that with Wood needle. I had also previously replaced the entire stock ignition system with a Spyke coil and ignition.
While it's hardly a racer, the sum total of these updates makes the bike seem like a completely different machine than the sluggish stocker I bought two years ago.
