Solved the spacer problem with a 1/8" washer that I bored out to fit.

Inner primary is back on.

Had the same down tube clearance problem on the right side with the exhaust. Took a ball peen to the front header (tough to do... brand new exhaust.) and it now fits. Had to move the right floorboard about an inch out to clear and now need to fab some spacers back aft as the mounts don't line up right. Looks great though.

Have cleaned up a bunch of wiring, installed new oil lines, fixed the front oil seals and installed some pullback risers.

plan is to get the primary reassembled and do the preliminary runs ins over the next couple of days. Hopefully will be riding by the weekend. <G>

>>Got the engine on Thursday... Those folks at Jireh ship fast... delivered to my garage door. It was gorgeous out of the box. Came with carb and ignition installed.<<

Are these the ones Jireh has on their website for $3499 to $3899 (depending on finish)?

Yes.

I called Jireh direct and was quoted free shipping via fedex but... ~$150 in insurance. I B-I-N'd it off Ebay for $3499 and it was delivered by a freight company with no additional costs. Kind of odd that I could have had my choice of sizes 96-100-107-113-120-127 for the same price.

Assuming it runs well and long, I think $3500 is a deal, especially since I was able to sell my old engine locally for a grand.

Last nite I got the primary and rear wheel on and turned the engine over to prime the oil lines (per the manual). Should be able to fire it up tonite!

Will take some pics tonite.

- fingers and toes crossed for you.

- the first start-up is the most stressful ! (make sure your battery is fully charged up).

- remove the plugs and crank the motor till you get oil pressure (or at least till your
oil pressure idiot-light goes out). Then only put back the plugs to fire it up.

cheers.

Amen about the stress... and the battery. Believe my 5 year old Hawker Oddessey is finally going south and probably need to get a new one soon but... it worked okay.

Turned the engine over a couple of times without plugs last night. Put the plugs back in and she started right up. What a great feeling! I love the smell of a just started engine.

Sputtered and coughed and wouldn't maintain idle, though. Had the idle **** adjusted way too far out. Seated it, backed it off a turn or two and she idles fine. Still backfires through the carb every couple of seconds when rolling up to and maintaining 2000 RPM's. I think it is a short in the ignition switch. Manual says it is "normal" and it seemed to subside as it warmed up. Didn't run nearly as "hot" as I thought it would on start up.

The engine itself didn't seem to be making any strange noises. Quieter in the top end than my old evo, but the oil really didn't get up to temp. It did get warm though, so I believe I routed all the new lines correctly.

New 32 Amp Wild Rider charging system appears to be working well.

Did a second heat run on it this morning and I am now ready to finish putting on the tanks boards seat etc... and should be on the road this weekend. <G>

Added a couple of pics. You can see the good rocker clearance, but the front down tube fit is just a bit too tight. Like fossil said, the later model softail frames provide a more clearance. Nothing a grinder and hammer didn't fix.

Exhaust is a Santee 80dB got off Flea bay for $200 new. I figure the header is worth that. It is quiet, but I've been over the loud pipe thing for a long while. Not sure how they compare to stock, but they aren't going to be waking the neighbors or setting off any car alarms. They look great and I'm hoping the aren't too restricted.

Thanks again for all the advice and encouragement. Will update again once it is on the road.

Plan was to run it 'til it died then get a 113"

It was starting to develop issues I didn't feel really want to deal with Base gaskets etc... and the 6 speed I dropped in last summer worked it pretty hard out on the highway.

Found a low mileage 88" Revtech locally for a couple of grand but the missus wouldn't abide. In her mind since I was never going to get rid of the bike, why not get a new motor that wouldn't have any questions with.

God I love that woman!

So ordered it is.

Appreciate all the threads on this board re: pro's/cons and genereal info on Ultima engines.Looking forward to getting in before the weather gets warm again.

A buddy of mine has a 113 in his '90 FXR with a 6 speed....that thing hauls the mail...Took his time and broke it in right...not a bit of trouble.

Looks awesome Deet. Great job. You will love the power of that motor. Just added a D&D Fatcat and a 6 speed tranny to mine and I am testing it today. Congrats!!!!

20 mile break in run with NO PROBLEMS!

That sucker is smooth and seems to have a lot of power. No suprise there. Still no leaks or weird engine noises so life is good.

Still had some popping through the carb, but the idle was up real high when was it was finally warmed up. I adjusted it again and it seems better.

Going to let it cool all day and put the rest of the first 100 on this evening. Change the oil tonite and try to get a couple of hundred tomorrow. It's supposed to be sunny and 60. <G>

Need to adjust new exhaust though. Not enough clearance when leaning right.

Here is the bike reassembled. Still need a heat shield and some bleche white for the tires, but that's my baby.
