Bike is done, will pick up tomorrow, tech said it was a little tic'y, always had lifter noise. Had to hone to get rear lifters in. Someone said their new lifters were quieter ? Been sice memorial weekend Sunday since I had bike, Am happy to get back.
Got bike back on Friday, new cam, oil pump, lifters and pushrods. Tech told me that it was tick'y, I told him it was always noisy, anyway it runs out well but it almost seems like the engine is noisier, lifter side, I can only assume that he set them to Harley specs , some of you guys mentioned that the new lifters were quieter, should these be set differently and to different specs ? The problem that I had mentioned earlier was that the lifter block would not allow the lifter to go init, not cut correctly, he honed it out to fit. Any suggestions on lifter noise would be appreciated.
All you can do is talk to the lifter people make sure your are adjust as per their spec, and live with what you get.Big inch machines need big cams to feed them properly, thus real hard on any lifter to follow the huge ramps and still be quiet. Both my big inch machines make wonderful lifter noises.Sewing machine like sounds!
Have about 250 miles on bike since cam/lifters/pushrods and oil pump. Seems noisier than before but not totally sure, winds out well, starts up and shuts off, called tech to make sure that info was sent w/parts so they set things right, said they did.
Not happy the engine went, happy they suplied parts, not happy about the money I should not have had to spend, not happy w/Matt, first and last time I talked to him was May 29, have left messages twice, once when parts were overdue, once when rear lifter would not slide threw block, hasn't returned a call yet, tech did what he felt he needed to do, hone block, would have been nice to get a call on that one, no excuse, find the time to make a call ! Happy bike is running and it is behind me. Thank for letting me mildly vent.
1200 miles and broke in by the book. Front exhaust rocker broke behind push rod at 800 miles. Noted a peice of the rocker box next to #1 intake rocker missing. Now #1 cylinder piston came apart. Installed engine in March 09. Ultima having issues letting me know if they will cover it. Anyone having an issue like this?

You have probably read what happened to me and the outcome, should not happen but did, Ultima was nice enough to supply parts but I was still out 600.00 in labor, love the engine and power, glad it's running and I did not have to foot the whole bill.

i have a ultima 127 in my bagger, helped kenny francis with the 4.25 cases,no prob with them, but motors had issues, lifters, sticking pistons.we`ve done alot of them.not a bad motor, but youve got to know your way around them(probs).kenny really had a good thing going, but when he left,i dont know.matt is pretty sharp, but i wont buy or sell another one since kenny left.we can fix about anything on them, like i said,we`ve done alot of them(mines 139 at the wheel, ride it 4-5 hours at a time,no prob)

Live in San Luis Obispo, CA. Matt has gotten back to me and I'll have to get the machine work done, split the cases for metal and hope nothing else is damaged. Matt e-mailed me Ross marked the pistons wrong that is why my front has a r and rear has an F. Called Ross and spoke with tech support and they told me they don't mark front of rear that is for the assembler to do when they check bore diameter. I installed my engine in March 09 and had 0 miles on it. Bought it from a parts retailer. Went down for back fusion April 8th 09 and was off it for 4 1/2 months. Knowing now that they have had alot of problems with Ross pistons expanding too quick and Mahle pistons are the fix they would have taken this nightmare back. Instead I have to fix their lack of quality and parts installed wrong from day 1 and do it myselt (with 9" titanium rods both sides lower back). Even broke the front exhaust rocker at around 800 miles, true quality. Have pictures and e-mails from Matt at Ultima, Scott (480)388-9803 Anyone feel free to call!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
