Default 98 RK oil pressure?

Ok, I have a friend who just inherited a VERY nice 98 RK. But he has a problem with it. The oil light stays on all the time. (He has NOT ridden it with this issue,)
However he doesn't know how long it's been that way.

Is there a common thing he could look at first? And what are the possible causes? (Oil pressure Sending unit, oil level sensor? (Just guessing myself)
I have heard the bike run, it's quiet, and has no sounds to make you think it has low oil pressure.

TIA,
Jim

Probably the switch (sender unit)

The light should go out with wire removed.

Oil switch should be closed (to ground) with no/low oil pressure. To check sender - with an ohm meter and the wire removed, check for continuity from the post to ground with engine off. Should be near zero ohms. With engine running, is should show high or infinite ohm reading.

Very cool, thanks. Any quick reference as to where it's located on the motor? Sorry, he doesn't have a manual yet.

Right side, threaded into the engine case, toward the rear and near the base of the rear cylnder.
If replacement is necessary, new senders (usually) have a sealing compound on the threads. Do not overtighten.....

Check the sender first, especially if the motor is quiet.

I will, using the ohming technique described above.

Thanks all!
