Default Ticking EVO

Ok anyone got some TNT to blow this one up. Here goes what is done. EVO ticking noise, replaced lifters. While later different ticking, found wrist pin bushing gone. Replaced rods with S & S rods and new crank pin that came with the rod kit. Installed 10.5 compression pistons .005 over. Quite for a while, but now damn that tick is back again. Removed cyls, all ok, wrist pins good. reassembed new gaskets. Tick still there around 1800 and seems a little related to throttle load. Can not seem to find. during last inspection, rods bearings had no slop. Nothing noticeable. Rechecked lift adjustable push rods. Re did procedure no change. Replaced pistons to 9.5 to see if that might have something. The rattle did change tone but it is still there. I had the Harley dealer install and true the crank, While the engine was out I had them install new main bearings. I did the assembly but I had them press out the crank and replace the rods, they also trued the crank when they replaced the crank pin.

Now the other issue, might be related or not. The front motor mount bolt, grade eight the one on the block part, keeps breaking. I have replaced several times. I dont know if this is an alignment issue, they seem to last around 4000 miles before it breaks. I dont think it is coming loose. I have never moved any of the adjustable links, but someone was in this motor before I purchased the bike.

I dont think it is the compensating sproket. At this time I will take any ideas. I am lost and just would like this thing to shut up. Bike has true dual exhaust, SE Cam, adjustable push rods. PC III processor. Changing fuel does not matter to higher octane no change.

Some were someone knows the answer. At this point I am willing to look at anything, Help.

by the way the pistons are Keith black pistons.

Have you checked the rocker arm end play. I beleive the clearance is suppose to be between 005 to 012. Not positive on those numbers. Mine was ticking real bad, then measured my end play and it was 009. Installed a 005 shim and no more noise.

Excess Cam Gear backlash can cause ticking. Excess backlash can be caused by loose cam gear to pinion gear fit, and can also be caused by a worn cam bushing in the cam cover.

EVO with a "tick", hummmm............

Seriously, several of us ar watching this post closely.. Not much to add, but I have also "clearanced" my rocker box covers, thinking that would help. Depending on the cam, it just may..

If the front motor mount bolt breaks every 4000 miles, that is a major problem. Something is moving to break that bolt, and that same movement might be causing the ticking noise. Even if it's not, you need to zero in on that problem.

Are there any "witness marks" on the pushrods? If so this may be your "ticking", we've found this on a couple of engines and it is overlooked in most cases. Hope this helps.

Mine had a ticking as well, but rotated the pushrods and tubes and that helped. I also have a metalic sounding ringing sound though, that has not yet been determined....Replaced the cam bearing.
