Default Evo Sightings

I attended the CMRA May Day/Spring Breakout event yesterday. While wandering through the rows of parked bikes, I saw numerous Evos and even a handful of Shovels. Most of the time when I see a group of parked bikes they are all Twinkies.

I think the CMRA events attract a more 'hardcore' group - people who have been riding all their lives and who may still have the same bike they bought 10 or 20 years ago. In fact I'd be willing to bet that many of the newer riders who just got started in the last couple of years don't even know that the CMRA exists and has been working to protect their rights for 30 years.

One of the Shovel riders had a '74 that he bought back in '75. And it was all original except for the seat, even the mufflers!

I did take a few pics, but they're on my computer at home. Maybe I can put some up later. The only Evo I took pics of was my own. But I did get a few of the Shovels.

I am amazed at the lack of Evos on the road too...for as reliable as they are I thought I'd see many more of them, even at local destinations.

I live very close to Cooks Corner, which is a major weekend biker hangout for Southern Cal.. I go there every now-and-then to check out what everyone is doing to their bikes ... and last time I was there I am guessing close to 100 bikes were at the bar.. I counted only one shovel and 2 Evos (including mine). I think there were 1 or 2 evo style S&S motors too.

Is everybody keeping them in their garages?

Not me! Planning a ride to the Long Beach swap meet on Memorial Day with some others. Our first "long" ride!

I have heard many of the EVO's including the Shovels were being shipped overseas.

Well, since I got my FXR, I have been riding the crap out of it. And yes you are right, very few Evos around and even less Shovels.

Went to a "place" I used to go to (before the current woman attained me) the other night. I had the only Evo out of 11 or so bikes (all Twin Cams). Not knockin' anyone either.

I love my 96" Twin Cam, too; and my 113" Ultima in my rigid. But the 80" is sweet.

I`d be willing to bet it is not just the newer riders who have never heard of CMRA... I`ve been riding 39 years (the last 21 of those years has been on an Evo) and have never heard of them.

I was a member of CMRA for a few years but didn't re-up last year when I thought I was a heartbeat away from the unemployment line.

I dunno, I'm quite happy with my EVOs, and really have no plans or intentions on replacing either one with something newer. Not unless someone drops of a barrel full of $50 bills and I run out of other ideas of what to spend it on.

When I did more charity rides and whatnot, I did notice that twinkies seemed to outnumber EVOs 20:1 if not more. I had to doublecheck the rules to see if EVOs were not allowed.
