'92 EVO primary noise, VERY WEIRD HELP!!

Jim - when you replace your tires, do yourself a favor and go with Metzeler ME880s. They handle much better than the Dunlops, and will last a long time. I run them front and rear, and they made a big difference from the Dunlops that were on there before...

The Dunlop 404 was given to me by the guy I bought the bike from, so I went ahead and used it. May try the Metzler 880 tires when I change them. Sounds like they work well. Thanks.

Dunlop does not recommend the 404 series for Harleys. They are meant for much lighter motorcycles. I bought a couple of 404s when I couldn't get Dunlop 491s for my bike. The one on the rear wore out 5000 miles sooner than any other tire I've ever used. Since I already had the front one, I had it mounted last year and it is nearly worn out in only about 10,000 miles. Not only that, but it has skidded twice under not-so-hard braking. Every other Dunlop I've used has been an excellent tire, especially the 491s, which get fantastic mileage.

Be aware that the 880's being made in Brazil have a tread separation problem. Can't advise if it's been rectified and as we all know, BP can't stop their oil leak yet. I have personally seen a 140 rear that came apart, large chunks of rubber just separating from the cords. When I saw that personally, I replaced the 880's on my FXR the next day with Avon Venoms. Threw the 880's that were practically new into the dumpster. Only a dishonest person would have tried to resell them. If the tire is German made then their have been no reported problems.

A search will reveal what I'm stating is a fact. I would not take a chance on the only thing keeping my A$$ betwen the bike and the road!!

Wow! How do I tell if my 880s were made in Germany... does it say that somewhere on the tire? Looking now...

Update: Both my my tires say "Made in Brazil" on them... don't know what I'm going to do yet, but thanks very much for the info. They "look" OK at this point, but that means nothing. I got them probably 18-20 months ago from an indy near my house.

I ran the German Metzlers for awhile and really liked them...that was when I was running the whitewalls....then they changed to Brazil and the whitewalls would yellow after just a couple months....I complained to metzler and brought the bike back to where I got the tires....metzler never actually acknowledged the problem at the time but the tire dealer admitted he had lots of complaints and they replaced them a couple times for me free of charge...it was just a PIA taking the bike in every few months after the white walls became yellow walls.
I never had any probs with the tires coming apart.

Then on a trip I got a large nail in the rear tire and had a tow to a harley dealer...I had both tires replaced back to the dunlops....but the dunlops just don't hug the road like the metzlers...so I will probably change back to Metzler when i am ready again...Are they importing any from Germany or is Brazil the only option now?

I have no idea where the Metzler 880's WWW were made that I had on our bike, but the rear tire started to look like a knobby tire for dirt, the tread was lifting up from the tire. I ended up switching back to Dunlops because none of the local dealers had replacements and I did not want to wait until they got a new tire in stock. I know all the Harley dealers have Dunlops in stock. The Metzlers were a little better with rain grooves and iron grate bridges. I recently purchased a Dunlop 402 www rear tire for $125 with free shipping from JakeWilson.com and it's manufactured date was the 13th week of 2010 so it was fresh, not something that spent a lot of time in the warehouses.
