Default '91 EVO oil filter problem.

I just picked up a '91 Electra Glide and it has a few small issues, one of which is an oil leak. Last weekend I found that the part that the oil filter screws into was loose. I had to unbolt the starter to get to the bolt to tighten it up. The problem was that with it wiggling the inlet bung, which is bent at a 90 degree, wiggled loose. That is where the oil was leaking out. The bung is supposed to tighten up and kind of angle forward from diagrams I found online. I tightened it up but it hit the outlet bung before it really tightented up. It was fine for about a week, with a couple of rides, then it started leaking again. Anyone have any ideas. I didn't know if it would be kosher to maybe put teflon tape on it or if that wouldn't take the heat.

I have a 1990 and my filter mount came loose a while ago. I tightened it up (don't recall too much, but didn't take the starter off) and it has been OK since.

Sounds like it would be worth removing it to clean and check it. I would be more inclined to use a thread sealant rather than tape on that thread. With it off the bike you can clean it up properly and probably turn that 90 degree fitting further around, to where it belongs.

After messing around with is for awhile I figured out the thread for the filter mount was left hand threads.

My next step is take the bungs out and see if it will tighten up more. Thanks for the help.
