What type of bag would you call this on the right side. The PO kept it and im trying to either find a similar one or buy a similar one for both sides and have it made in a distressed brown color. Then either recover my seat or buy a new one in distressed brown. Along with a tool roll/tool pouch in same color?
Those look like saddlebags in the biblical sense of the word. Like saddlebags for horses. I happen to like that look as well and had an Amish/Mennonite place called Akers Ranch out of Texas make this set and hand tool it. I could be wrong, they look like true tack bags. At least thats where I would start looking is I wanted another one.
I've always liked Springers. I'm not a softtail guy, but if I was looking for one, that's what I'd go for.
That bag just looks like a generic saddle bag. Just shop around swap meets, stores, etc. until you find one. It looks to be dimensionally close to what we have on the Sportster:
Jireh Cycles has good prices on stuff. I don't like their online catalog, but you can't beat their prices. I think they'll send you a CD for free with the catalog in a PDF.
I met a guy at Sturgis once with a springer of about your year. About the only problem he had was the headlight bucket cracking at the bolt. He'd gone through several of them. Good luck on getting rid of the DPO issues. Certainly fix that front wheel before you ride it. It is amazing that some people have lived as long as they have.
The PO probably bent the 21" wheel and replaced it with a cheaper more avalible 19". Thats pretty common around here. To bad he didn't know what he was doing.
