Default 1991 flhs

Just wondering if anybody out there that has a 1991 flhs? If so, do you have a hard time to find parts for it, like we do? Specifically looking for the piece that goes over the handle bars once you take the speedo and tac out to put it in the inner fairing. The speedo and tac is the one piece oval shape one. We have the inner fairing and the rest of the gauges that came with it when bought off ebay. Just trying to get all the pieces together for it to put in the bike and get an audio system as well.

The easiest install would be to get the frame mounted fairing as opposed to the batwing fairing. The TourGlides of that era had them and used the existing cluster without changing locations. I've never been behind a batwing style fairing, but there are others on here who have. They'll chime in.

The parts isssue is a MoCo thing, as they have discontinued/obsoleted a number of parts for the 'older' bikes. Fortunately, a number of parts are carried forward to the newer models, and can be found at dealerships. That is, if you are interested in OEM parts. Otherwise, there are a number of parts available from the aftermarket.

I used to have a 91 FLHS, long gone now, but I still have the owners manual, service manual, and parts catalog if you are interested. Yours for the cost of shipping.

You have already had success with ebay, so keep one eye there. I live in the UK and find most of the things I want on US ebay! Another possibility is to place a advert in the wanted section here on HDF and look at the ads of stuff for sale.

I bought a batwing fairing many years ago and have to admit I gave up with modifying the wiring, so bought an earlier glass-fibre one, which you can see in my sig pic. So my instruments etc are all stock.

I have a '91 FLHS ( pics in my garage). The "Sport" has a windshield not a fairing of any kind. Recently I thought my ignition switch was bad and learned that it is "obsolete" and not even bikebandit dot com had it. Since figured out it was my voltage regulator causing the turn signals not to work and not the ignition switch. The dash panel on the handlebars is very unique and I personally really like the setup for ease of viewing while riding. Having problem with speedo right now. Just got the speedo back from speedo shop and nothing wrong with it so looking at the cable and drive unit. I love my FLHS and wouldn't trade it for anything. In addition to a top end, Andrews cam, S & S carb, belt drive primary, halogen lights upgrade with wiring, and Saddlemen Seats "Road Sofa" I just redid all the suspension ( except rear shocks) with the Glide Pro swingarm bushing/front motor mount kit, Custom Cycle S.S. cleave bearings, and Progressive Suspension variable rate fork springs. The comparable bike new is the Road King.

Your bike sounds nice! But the current Road King is not strictly comparable... it costs many thousands more, AND you have to look down at the gas tank to see your speed! What's up with that? No tach, either...

My Bertha is the very last year of the old FLHS "toaster dash" front end, which continued into 1994 and 1995 only on the Police bikes before it was retired forever and replaced by the Road King Police in 1996. I replaced her old, scratched-up stock Lexan windshield last year with a beautiful 2" over-wide Cee Bailey Lucite smoked windshield that I absolutely love. I can actually see in front of me now when riding into the sun!

I will have Bertha until the day I die. Hopefully we'll have a lot more miles together before that day though... and hopefully her ignition switch will be good for a long time, too!

I picked up my 1991 FLHS over this summer and replaced the seat with one from a 1994 Road King. It fits like a glove.

Yes, I meant generally the Road King is the "grandson" of the Electra Glide Sport with windshield and not batwing or fixed fairing, touring frame, exposed shocks, big front end, plush two up seat, hard bags, floorboards, etc. Never did get the thinking behind putting a speedo way down on the tank and eliminating the tach??? Cheaper I guess. I'd much rather have seen the gauges just mounted on the handlebars even if they eliminated the "toaster" dash panel? My "little Evo" is plenty powerful and fast esp. with the work I've put into her and have no desire for "monster" engines. I rode a buddy's '09 Fatboy with a 96" motor I think and felt no difference in acceleration to my bike. In sixth gear in a headwind he gets a slight advantage on me to be sure over me with my 5 speed but that's about it I'd say.

Bertha is a beauty. Blue Belle told me she'd like to meet her some day.
