Even if you don't change the cam, change the lifters. My '93's had a wheel bearing come apart at 49.925 miles and screwed the motor. Cheap insurance.,,

Frankly, if you're happy with the performance, why change anything? As long as the bike hasn't been abused, 58,000 miles is a long way from an Evo being worn out.
Since your bike already has an aftermarket cam, it's very possible that the original lifters have been replaced, too. If I were you, I'd contact the original owner who did the work. I'm sure he'd be glad to tell you what mods were done.

Hi mp, Will be stripping & investigating what exactly has been fitted and hopefully renew whats needed. I did contact original owner. He replied that..."over the years he has had so many bikes that he couldnt remember what had been done to mine and 20 years had passed since he owned my bike".
Fair comment! So I wont know anything until the stripdown.
Thing is....Im enjoying riding the bike so much this year, after last years gremlins, that it will be a winter or early very spring job.
Many thanks to ALL who responded . Have a good summer . Bungo

Hey BungoBill,

If your pleased with the performance and concerned about the state of your engine with 58k miles ( not alot for an Evo, FYI ) ask yourself, is there excessive valve train noise? Does it burn oil? Is there anything to indicate it's not working as intended? If the answer is no. Then do a compression and leak down test. If both turn out satisfactory, ride happily in to the sunset knowing your ride is in good working order.

Donnie, the best advice I can give, based on personal experience, is change your exhaust for a 2-into-1. I have a SuperTrapp SuperMegs on my Evo. You will get improved low/mid range torque, where most of us ride. Longshots won't improve your performance in the same way if at all.

Default 91 Ultra 1340. Andrews Cam Kit.

Hi Guys, Time flies! I posted that thread in 2010. Know somethin...I havent done anything re. stripdown to inspect Cam etc.,etc. or any other stuff that I spoke about at the time. As someone said...why change things when you are happy with the bike & its performance.
Next problem I have is rust in the frame at the usual places but I dont even want to think about that at the moment although I will be asking for advice in the very near future. Happy riding. Bungo
