Default EVO exhaust advice...

My 98 heritage has stock exhaust and no stage 1. So You know what my first performance upgrade needs to be. I have read a lot of scuttle on these forumns about the Vance and Hines long shots being a bad idea. However I haven't heard a good explaination why. I'd love to hear the technical reasons for this, so I can determine for myself whether or not to use them as an option for my stage 1 conversion. Thanks for sharing.

Because you are paying a lot of money for a little pipe that has very little if any performance increase ove a good set of slip-ons with stock pipes!!! However if you like the look go for it, but you will probably lose a little bottom end performance with a stock bike. Take a look at their big radius pipes 2-1. Hope this helps

If you want loud, they are perfect but they are not much more than long drag pipes with baffles and a small crossover. They do have a nice heat shield which keeps the blueing or browniing from showing. As stated, their 2:1 makes good power.

You might want to look into Cycle Shack's M series, they make very good power and generally sound like a 327 Camaro with duals. I've had them on my last two EVOs with great results and less than half the cost of V&H.

I found a set of Long shots of E-bay for $100 bucks. Got them on the bike. They looked awsome, they have that going for them. Thats about all they had going for them. Went to sturgis on them. 4317 miles. Every right turn with a bump they would hit the gound, couldn't back up to a curb all the way cause they would hit, pull out of a parking lot and they would drag on the side walk ramp. I did loose some low end but not bad. LOUD, people knew you were comming, had to ride in the back of my group too, nobody would ride behind me. So I put my T-Header back on, bike just runs better with a thunder header. I think V&H has the Big Shots that look like duals but are really 2-1.

That's exactly what I was looking for. I'm not really willing to loose any low end performance. So I'm looking into other options. Thanks again!

I tried these 2-1 by cycle shack. They worked great, sounded great, and cost me less than 300. Not sure if they make them anymore. Just put on a Bassani 2-1 on with the new motor. Really like it too, but it cost twice as much.
