Have you thought about buying an aftermarket motor that has more cubes an torque, for about what a reman motor would cost?. I've seen a few on ebay lately in the $3600 range. More power and a longer warranty then Harley gives you with their reman motor. You could sell or part out your beat up motor to help cover the cost of the new motor, and have alot more get up and go.,,

This for me would probably be the best idea especially if the rest of the bike is in good condition.
Yeah i have looked at the Ultima motors and your right about 3-4k. I found a used S&S 113 with about 9k miles on it for 3k too but I am weary about buying used motors after this issue.
The thing is though if i sell mine for 4k and take the 3-4k i was going to put into a motor i can get a lot newer bike and the old lady cleared me to the 10k range that opens it up a bit.
If i can get 4k out of it i think it's gone if not i'll build it!

Hmmm... so you're cleared to $10K? OK. You can buy just about any Evo bagger - even a nice, clean, and fairly tricked-out '97 or '98 Ultra, for under $10K these days... I'd sure think about that!
If I were going to buy another Evo bagger - I'd go with a '97 or '98, to get all of the last improvements that were made to the Evo baggers. The frame changed in '97 to accommodate a larger battery, and there are some rear end accessories that only fit '97 and up... although some - such as the detachable Tour Pak rack - that are advertised as "'97-up only" will actually fit older bikes. The hand controls also changed in '96 to the new more rounded versions.
Yep and round gauges in 96! I have been eyeing a roadglide. There is a local one around 10k. I have 3 people coming tomorrow so well see!
Ooooooh... if I had it to do over again, the Road Glide would be the One for me... I love the look of them, and that frame-mounted fairing handles better than the bat wing. There's no fairing weight on the bars so they turn easier, and the fairing handles the wind for you without transferring the movement to the bars. Pass a semi going in the opposite direction on a RG and you'll understand. Good luck... this should be a fun search for you!
Looks like the hunt is on.... I have a guy coming tomorrow to pick up the bike. Right now I really leaning towards a RG but any touring bike is game. If i find one with an EVO that is in good condition that is even better! I have seen a bunch of 05-07's in the 11-15k range depending on mileage and I found an 03 that is decked out but he wants 15k and that's a little more than i want to spend.
Let me know if any of you know of any good deals near Dayton OH. I have 10k cash and a couple of guns i could throw in if the deal is right.
