Default 97 Roadking Hop-Up

Looking to hop-up my 97 RK and was wondering what some of you have done to their RK's or EVO motors? I have Sampson mufflers and Screaming Eagle air flow kit and was thinking of cam upgrade or boring of heads. Any input would be appreciated.

TIA

Is you RK EFI or Carb? If it's EFI, what are you doing about fuel management? A cam like an Andrews EV27 (bolt-in) will wake it up. I put one in mine and it makes quite a difference. Others who have had head work done have stated that porting and a bump of compression, together with a cam that matches the rise in compression will really give you a boost. It all depends on what you want to spend. If you go with a bolt in cam and adjustable push rods it's a fairly easy and inexpensive hop up. Head porting is best done by a reputable shop. You need to do your homework on this. Lots of info here if you search.

How long have you had your bike and what do you know about it's history? Lots of things out of sight may have been done to it. If you are confident those are the only mods, you have great scope for improvements.

There are tuners here on HDF who can transform your bike for you. Modified heads, with higher compression pistons and a suitable cam can give serious improvements. If it is a carb bike it will need rejetting and probably a replacement ignition system. You will get far better results than just tinkering on it yourself! Do you have a decent independent nearby?

I'm sorry, I don't! I bought my 1990 bike new and those were the first mods I did to it around 1992 (with a Crane module). Several upgrades later I have an S&S 107 in it, so be warned! I know how to spend my own cash and can't stop myself helping others. It's a serious condition.....

You will need a few gaskets as well, but it is not difficult or expensive to do. You can save some cash by shopping around, but also spend a lot of time trying to save those last few bucks. If you can get them locally without much effort, that is what I suggest.

I don't know about the SE ignition but you can get an ev27 cam for anywhere between $125 to $175.If you'll shop around you can find some good deals.Use your old cam gear and you won't have any noise problems with it.

Look on ebay for cam change package deals. These will include gaskets, inner cam bearing (Torrinton style) cam, lifters (maybe), and adjustable push rods. Eastern Performance sometimes has these. But hold out for name brand products. May be worth calling them instead of just buying off auction.
