More Starter Shenanegains....
Bought it as a "needs new engine" project and rebuilt the motor instead.
Had lost the circlip on the piston pin and gouged the rear cylinder, which sent metal throughout the cases, oil pump, timing chest etc. Did a cases up rebuild, finished putting everything back, checked all wiring, connected the battery, fuel on, pushed the button and exactly the same thing happens. By the time I got the battery unhooked it had boiled dry.
Then after I checked everything again and re-tightened all Earth connections (and put a new Gel battery in) It started as if nothing had happened.
However a new problem surfaced. The dreaded"click, click" won't start.
This was intermittent, mostly when hot.
Discovered that from about 87 to 95 there had been a lot of problems with Starter issues. Did a bit of homework and zeroed in on the starter relay and wiring.
Modified the wiring to the starter relay and have had no no more problems.
Forgot to add, I did put a 30amp in-line fuse between the battery and terminal 30 on the new starter relay. It does not show on the diagram.
