Just a thought: take a sharp 7/16" drill bit (if they have those over there) and run it through your banjo bolt.
12mm will work fine...you have nothing to lose to try it...as long as you have the correct bore it will work fine.

Thanks for all the input folks. Gonna get a 12mm bolt and go with new cables. Cheers.
