Hi was wondering i have the timing @35 full advance and high compression motor getting pinging i want to retard the timing abit i was told rotating the plate counterclockwise will retard the timing so when i lossen off the studs and stick a screwdriver in the adjusting knotch and trun screw driver counter clockwise it looks to me that it is moving the timing plate clockwise is that correct? Thanks

To retard it, turn to the right, clockwise.

The timing cup runs off of the cam which is turning in the opposite direction of the engine. To retard it you need to turn it counter-clockwise.
